We started our 2 day trip to the holy city of Varanasi with a 9 hr delayed arrival by train from Delhi. Also we delayed our arrival to the hotel by not going to the correct ticket office to be collected. Finally with the assistance of a friendly tuk tuk driver & calls to the hotel we met Mr Pandey in the right spot. It was all our fault this time- more lost time. We were rewarded when we arrived after a chaotic ride through the streets & then walk through the old city to the hotel. The room & balcony was a prime vantage point to view the ghats & daily life. We wish we had much more time here (thanks fog & India rail). Restaurant was excellent with again wonderful views however we could not charge back to the room. Could easily spend a week here. Note: if you booked through a third party eg Booking.com Make sure you have evidence of your room rate otherwise they may try to charge you extra. We could pay for the room using credit card - this was really helpful as we had significant restrictions during our trip with withdrawals from ATMs due to demonetisation action taken by the govt. (& additional costs incurred with each transaction)
I stayed at this hotel along with my wife, mother and in-laws. The location of the hotel was excellent with amazing views of river Ganga. I took two premium rooms and from both the rooms, the views of river Ganga was amazing. Hotel is at easy walking distance to Kasi Viswanatha temple. Reception staff was very nice when I checked into the hotel and they sent three people to help with the luggage as the hotel does not have car access. In general staff was very good, but the special thanks goes to Munna, the transportation manager. Munna helped us with the special darshan and he informed us that the only time we can touch Shiva Linga was in the night time around 9 pm and took us for Darshan immediately. This is so nice of him, otherwise we could not have touched Lord Shiva Lingam in Varanasi. He just happen to be there at that time, when we checked into the hotel and came and told this valuable information. Later on our request, he arranged the Toyota Innova transportation to Gaya and Allahabad and another final Darshan to Lord Viswanatha when we were leaving to Hyderabad. Munna was extremely helpful and very co-operative. He made our trip to Kasi, Gaya and Allahabad very memorable and enjoyable. The only issue we had at the hotel was, the check out time was 11 am which is too short and I requested one person at the reception. He was rude and said no simply. I asked for Manager and he said again rudely ' I am the manager here and talk to me'. He is a tall, hefty dark and bald person in 30s-40s. Then I approached Munna to help me and Munna introduced me to the actual Manager (Tiwari), who accepted me to check out at 1 pm. In general all of the reception staff are good, except this person, who behaved rudely. He should be given some coaching on how to behave with customers and do not lie that he is a manager. Overall I rate this hotel as excellent facility and recommend to others. I would have rated five star if I did not experience the rude behaviour from the guy in reception on Jan 9th morning at 8 am.
We booked a premium room (118) top floor with balcony overlooking the Ganges. Unfortunately, the guest house restaurant looks right onto the balcony, so it certainly isn't private and you feel 'watched' when using it. The room was spacious, clean (apart from the toilet) and with a view to die for! The shower wasn't great and it was connected to the next room by a vent and we were able to hear everything!! Although, the bedroom was very quiet due to double glazed windows. The food in the restaurant was inexpensive and delicious, served by friendly staff. Note: you must pay cash for all food and drinks (unable to put it on the credit card, which we had been doing in other hotels throughout India). Booking river boat trips through the hotel was much cheaper than trying to negotiate directly with boat owners, even though you will be asked if "you want boat?" many, many times as you walk along the ghats. The 'spa' treatments were certainly not up to 'western standards' but were 'western prices'!! I was very disappointed with what I received and the I am sure I could have done a better job at the henna myself!! All in all, this was a good hotel and superbly located - very close to the burning ghat and also'The Blue Lassi' and the original 'Brown Bread Cafe', both listed in The Lonely Planet.
This is a sound choice if you are staying on Varanasi. There are many budget hotels in Varanasi but most are of poor quality. This is a very good option for all levels from budget upwards. Whats more the hotel has an awesome location with fantastic views by the Ganga. All the staff are also very helpful, friendly and polite. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering visiting Varanasi. Its popular so advance booking is recommended.
Indian style hotel, nice terraces overlooking ganga. I got a room ( they called it the basement). Window faces a hall way, which faces a wall toward the ganga). Its january and down there ( in the basement...its cold). Noisy neighbors and lots of noise from the other side of the wall. They sad that there is 24/7 hot water, but when the little tank is used, the water is cold. I got 2 older blankets, i slept w my down parka & pants..... it was so cold. Lots of indian men occupying rooms when climbing the stairs to reception. Well, it was a clean and ok place for my first 2 nts in varanasi.
