Aniket is a great place to stay in Varanasi. It's not a big hotel, but rather a cosy family home with a lot of character. Spacious rooms, all attached. Vikkiy is great; super accommodating and friendly, and the family are so hospitable and easygoing. Quiet location too, but right in the thick of the action and 2 minutes walk from the ghats. And now the guesthouse benefits from the addition of a brilliant roof-top cafe (with the best coffee in town). Feel like part of the family :-)
Quiet and cosy place in the middle of the quarter behind Assi Ghat. You reach the vibrant ritual hindu place in front of the ghat in 5 minutes. Rooms are functional and clean, equipped with large double beds. Vicky at the reception cares for customer satisfaction, he will be your free tourist guide and arrange local-priced contacts for boat trips. Visit the underground water temple with him. You will be surprised. Take a rest and enjoy the atmosphere at sunset at the shag-like roof top Terracotta lounge on top of the 3-floor guesthouse.
Aniket Guesthouse is a friendly, low-key place right in Assi Ghat, the main Ghat for morning (pre-sunrise) Phuja ceremony, chanting, raga music & yoga. It is the usual basic budget accommodation of India, worth its low price and adequate if you want something cheap. If you want super clean/comfortable, you may find it a unsuitable. However, if you're an easy-going backpacker, young couple, solo traveller etc., you will love this place. The thing that makes this place amazing is the vibe and atmosphere. This is due to 1) the relaxed, friendly and family environment of the Guesthouse, with helpful and obliging staff, and especially: 2) the newly opened (Jan 2017) rooftop Terracotta Cafe, above the guest house, with friendly staff and an awesome Australian-fusion vegetarian & vegan menu. It's a wonderful place to chill, eat, and meet other travellers as well as locals. It's fairly priced and has espresso coffee with non-dairy milk options (a rare treat in India!).
Let's start with the good things about this place: Biky (staff) is friendly, the place is near Assi Ghat and it was cheap, about 400 rupees for a double room. Now with the cons: The room was really dirty, lot of dust, filthy sheets that had humid odor, the attached bathroom was very very basic, dirty and no hot shower, just a "heater thing" that boils water in a plastic bucket and that's it. Plumbery was unfinished so all the water from the tap ended up in the floor. The dustbin wasn't clean and our room had no curtains so you can saw the room from outside. The family there was also very rude to the guests, I didn't feel welcome by the "boss", the Wi-Fi didn't work during most of our stay. Love yourself a little more and go anywhere else! I'm sorry but you deserve better!
Vikkiy make very good tea free, Pinku is very great guy also, he can speak a little of spanish. My stay here was very great, I am very happy with mu decision about to choose this place. The guys (Pinku amd Vikkiy) organize very good Varanasi walk tours.
