We arrived in Varanasi around 8 PM and were unable to get a room at the Surya hotel
where we had wanted to stay. A gentleman out front recommended the Costa Riviera next door. It looked okay, though a little noisy from the number of local men and ladies speaking loudly on cell phones in the lobby and hallways. The price was almost double the Surya rate. Tired from a long drive from Lucknow, we accepted the room and we were in bed by 10:30 pm. Soon after, we began hearing loud banging and thumping. Furniture was being moved about, and men were talking. All sounds echoed through the ceiling and walls. I initially thought it was coming from the above room. The noises continued constantly, allowing us no possibility of sleep. At 4am, when I called and complained to reception, strangely, the noises stopped immediately? Was it coming from a guest above? I found out that there wasn't anyone in that room. I could only assume it must have been coming from hotel staff. I went up 2 floors andp discovered it was the staff maintenance room above ours where at least 6 men were busy, now working much more quietly. We were only able to get one hours sleep the entire night! After a very dismal breakfast of uncooked fried eggs, toast and instant coffee, we asked to speak to the manager, and found he wasn't available. We complained about our inability to sleep caused by their hotel staff, and asked for a discount from their rather high tariff. The girl at the desk said she was unable to do so, so I insisted she contact the manager by phone so I could speak to him. As we had not yet paid, I had offered a 2/3 payment. The manager, Saurabh Singh, was contacted. I explained to him, how his staff so inconsiderably disturbed our stay and sleep. I told him we would only pay 2/3 of the amount owing. His disturbing, unconcerned reply was, "if you do that the girl on reception will be held responsible for the balance, and it will be removed from her salary!" "Why would it be her responsibility?...you cheap so and so," I replied. "That's the rules," he answered. The girl was nearly in tears with worry, knowing whatever we didn't pay, she would! We disgruntingly paid up. Beware of excessive noise here! No wifi in rooms.
Clean, comfortable bed & wonderful breakfast.
All the staffs are very nice, helpful and friendly.
Standing in the good location for tourists who love to shopping.Just a little long walk you will see a lot of shops
We were welcomed well and had a very pleasant stay. The hotel staff been very accommodative. Provided early breakfast for group of us who came for a conference. The manager spoke in fluent English and very helpful throughout our stay.
Giving this hotel 2 stars.
We had dinner here and next morning our stomach was very upset and since we were not feeling well, we asked if could stay here for another hour(post checkout time) to which the reception staff clearly declined. We also mentioned the reason.
We respected their policy, but not even courteously did they feel sorry about their service and not even offered any medicine or any other aid.
2 stars- only for the rooms decor and size.
Honestly - I dont know how many times I had to go up and down to reception, mainly because they could not understand me and the lift was terrible. My card stopped wording, I needed scissors to get into my luggage from security ties and every time up and down. Calls to reception to request assistance went unanswered. I had a massage from the spa which was horribly over priced and very poor experience. The masseuse was very underskilled and despite many requests for more pressure this went unanswered. The rooms were beautiful- but freezing! And then they didnt take MasterCard. Would not recommend. The rooms themselves were tidy - but dont look to close at the cleanliness. The doormen on the other hand were exceptionally friendly.
