They try to maintain the facilities, but what do you think? They can't be be as good as Clark's. Medium budget - must visit. TVs are the old bulky ones, but they have it. Free WiFi stops working mostly. But they have very clean toilets. They are obviously packed from all sides, that means you are safe from the outside world. If you want to rest, the location is awesome. For tourists, you should be somewhere else. Food is okay, not so good, not so bad. Okay if you are really hungry, but I suggest get out, I mean it is Varanasi man, it is the whole world in itself.
Hotel Ganesha is located close to Assi Ghat. Being away from the hustle and bustle , it soothes the nerves after all the tremendous noise of Varanasi main streets. Being located in a narrow lane, the honking is much less. Room though small was clean with clean linen. Bathroom was quite clean. Hotwater supply has been augmented with additional geysers though we had to put up with cold water bath at 5 am on one day!!Mr.Anand is quite helpful and friendly. It is good place for the price .
This hotel is close to the Assi Ghat. Liked the nightly Gange River ceremonies. I would like to express my gratitude to the hotel for Ajay Pandey"s guide through the streets of Varanasi. He really knows the history of this city.. He took me to many temples, the muslim quarters, a walk through the narrow streets and many more.
As for the other staff members they were kind and have that great indian hospitality. There are downfalls in this hotel, bear in mind it is not expensive to stay here, but I chose to focus on the positive side which in turn made my stay memorable.
We were only in Varanasi for one night, but the hotel staff themselves made sure it was two day's worth of fun and amazing experiences. The hotel itself is clean and calm, away from the busy Indian streets but a stone's throw away from the spiritual Assi Ghat. The highlight of this place, however, is Ajay; the in-house tour guide. For 800 INR pp, Ajay will take you up and down the Ganga river for the sunrise (be prepared for the 4:30am rise) and sunset, which includes the daily ritual performed at the main ghat. While on the sunrise cruise, Ajay also arranged a tour of the burning ghat for us by the 'ghat keeper' himself. This was a pretty harrowing but enlightening experience and opened our eyes to Hindu cremation ceremonies, which Ajay is knowledgable and passionate about.
As an added bonus and free of charge, we were given a guided tour of Varanasi's four main temples, along with a brief visit to the university campus and Muslim village.
As aforementioned, we were only here for one night but, with the help of the friendly and welcoming staff at Ganesha, particularly Ajay, we were given an in-depth view into daily life in Varanasi.
Firstly the couple of down things. Noisy air conditioning unit in my room. It meant turning it on and off during the night, which resulted in a disturbed night's sleep. It could do with a good servicing. I stayed 7 night's and there was only one service clean of the room the entire time. A bit more regularly would be nicer.
So that's out the way.
Now the far more many good points. Location is fantastic. 150 - 200 rupees Tuk Tuk ride from the train station to Assi Ghat. Within walking distance of all the markets, ghats, temples and much more, otherwise rickshaws and tuk tuks are readily available. The resturant wasn't open while I was there, but no problem. So many resturant's and street food within 2 - 5 mins. The staff are all friendly and helpful.
But the number one good point of this hotel has to be Ajay, the waking tour guide. This service is provided free by the hotel. Ajay takes these which are more than just a walk round. Hungry, he'll suggest you want to try something and take you there. Need a ride, he'll get you a good price. Need to buy something, he'll sort you the right place. Something wrong he'll do his best to make sure your alright. Ajay is a number 1 guy.
Overall I had a very good stay at Hotel Ganesha and would certainly recommend other travelers try and stay here. If you book through Trip Advisor you should get a good deal.
