Hotel is Excellent. Ambience is perfect. Service also very good. Worth for money. Only food is expensive.

The hotel is very close to the Taj hotel and it is a 4 star property. Very good food, courteous staff. R Muthuvelautham

Beautiful hotel with lackadaisical service Beautiful hotel with lackadaisical service

by McFrac on February 1, 2017

The hotel grounds were beautiful. The swimming pool was a cool but welcome relief. The restaurant was convenient and offered good food. The service provided by the front desk was not good. They seemed reluctant to offer anything out of the usual. The safe in the room was locked so I could not use it and after 2 days it was still locked. I had lost something in the hallway and after 2 days they told me it was not found. I am not sure they made any effort.

This hotel is for this price absolutely not good enough. It's pretty dirty and need a lot of maintenance. We were booked here for 3 nights but left the hotel after one night. My advice try to avoid this hotel.

they double dipped into my credit card and charged me double for a 2 nights stay, the hotel was not central, the only good part was the friendly door man, they have not refunded me my money after many attempts and lots of proof

Hotel is perfect for a long trip to Varanasi, also for the loudly noise in the streets you can request for a room in the back, not nice view but quiet silence, people are very kindly, the wi fi could be better. Breakfast is simple but enough (western style).

Varanasi is an absolutely wild place, so any hotel is a respite from the frenzy of the streets. This hotel is several miles from the Ganga and the ghats and the only way to get there from the hotel would be a tuk tuk or a driver. We were booked here by our tour company. The hotel looks elegant and has an impressive lobby, and a dining room atrium with a waterfall, then a regular breakfast / dining room. The food in the dining room was good with a lot of options. Our breakfast buffet was included, and had a lot of choices.including Indian breads and curries. There is also a roof top restaurant that is nice but it is a hang out for the local alternative crowds. The rooms were spacious, a bit dated but included all amenities except wi-fi - that was only accessible in the lobby and sporadic at that. The air conditioning is quite cold and hard to adjust. There are no bedside lights for reading. The rooms and the upper hallways have a musty odor, probably from the waterfall in the atrium that all floors look out on. We did a walk in the neighborhood - not really a walking neighborhood so take your chances. If you do walk, the train station is to the left several blocks and if you go right from the hotel entrance there in a main road a few steps away. Varanasi is a very interesting and worthwhile place to visit but you do need a guide and driver. Be sure to do the early morning (6 a.m. dawn) boat tour - exquisite and the real way to see Varanasi, as well attend the evening aarti sessions I believe the main one at the Dasawamamedth ghat. You can climb the steps to some terraces where you can rent a chair instead of sitting in the crowds We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Meraden Grand for the 3 nights we were there.
