I spent 4 nights here. I Like: cleanish room, View over Ganges, balcony, furnitured, AC inclusive, good price, monkey Watching from the balcony, good WiFi everywhere, no smell from burning ghat, very friendly and helpful staff <3 Could be better: Indian families VERY loud (early morning and evening), Guide slept through sunrise boat Trip so we couldnt Go, many mosquitos (but managable) Highly recommend!

It's just the Expirience of Banaras It's just the Expirience of Banaras

by ThyUrbanMonk on January 25, 2014

If you are coming to expirience banaras, then things of being at luxury is out of the list. You can get help from hotel guys. Being near to the burning ghats, make you expirience the Place more better. It's the pure expirience of Banaras. In terms of food,go for other resturants on road towards Assi Ghat. The View from balcony is just amazing! The ganges, ghats ! Warm Water is available, and If you want luxury, then don't opt for this hotel because when it comes to Banaras, just dip in the devotion.

Really bad hotel Really bad hotel

by tilliainen on January 3, 2013

This was not a good place to stay longer than max one night. We spent 5 nights. The hotel is right next to the burning ghat. That might be interesting for couple of days but if you're staying longer it might be a little bit too much. Smelling burning bodies 24/7 is not than much fun. But that wasn't even the problem. The problem was that the hotel was very dirty, beds were horrible, there were bedbugs the toilet didn't work and MONKEYS attacked our room because the locks were so rusty. Monkeys broke our stuff, all the clothes were dirty after this, my medicine were all over the dirty floors... Yeah. And the staff didn't believe we had locked the balcony door, so at first they didn't even want to give us a new room. Finally we got a new room which didn't really help that much. I just don't find anything good to say about this "hostel". Don't waste your money on this dump.

Desperate for a bed Desperate for a bed

by peargrower on April 9, 2012

No rooms anywhere when arrived in Varanasi late at night. I remembered that the Sonmony had been recommended to us by another traveler so we made our way to Harischandra Ghat, one of the burning ghats. We checked into room #22 and the night watchman was kind enough to give us a couple of towels and sheets. Not the cleanest hotel in town but under the circumstances, it was okay. The next morning we awoke to chopping sounds and discovered that the enormous scale to weigh the wood for the pyres was pretty much at the hotel's front door. I would caution anyone staying here to be prepared for the smell of burning flesh wafting up from the ghat. Staying here will provide a full on India experience. We paid Rs 400 for a double.
