The worst Lodge ever The worst Lodge ever

by SandeepReddyU on April 11, 2014

I had been to Varanasi very recently. The moment you put your foot on that soil, remember to trust your mind & the advice's given to you by your friends, relatives or neighbors. My advice is very simple, do not trust anyone. All of my friends & relative's advised me to go to an Ashram. But the Auto guys have something different in their mind. They will tell you that Ashram's are far away from the Main Temple & Ghats and the Hotel that they are gonna show is very near to the Temple or Ghats which is not true at all. So this auto fellow managed to trick me & took me to this lodge. I said I wanna check it first & then I'll decide. He said okay. I went inside the Lodge & checked, it was just average. I thought of staying for a day & give it a try. So I took it. The Lodge Manager gave me a room on the ground floor which consisted of 4 beds & a bathroom & a TV. He charged me 1000 Rs per day. It was in the evening so we went for the Ganga Dharshan & came back. The next day, I found out that this Lodge was far away from all the places & Ashram was very near. So I went to the Manager of the Lodge & told him that I would like to vacate the room as I changed my plans. He in his usual tone said that it was not possible & I had to stay for another day in their Lodge. I was like what is this & what are you talking. I'm the guy who needs to take a decision on whether staying or not, who are you to say to me that I need to stay for another day. Then he said that this is the rule in Varanasi Hotels & also gave me a free advice that he will take 2 days room charge & then I can go. I was completely in anger with the way they were reacting, but in the end I had no choice but to stay there for another whole day, travelling a lot of distance than I should have. The next day I checked out & went to a nearby Ashram & checked in there. They were very polite, offered me food & charged 100 per day per person & they even guided me on visiting the places around Varanasi. Coming to the Lodge management, It is one the worst Lodge stayed till date in my history & the worst management. These guys are there just to loot you but nothing else. They did offer me a guide & he was charging 500 per place. They also arranged me a taxi service & he was charging double the money than the others. So it was obvious that these all very partners in the crime & I was their sheep. I would not recommend to check into any of the Hotels in Varanasi. Firstly because they are very far away from the places we would like visit & secondly and mainly because they don't even know the very little etiquette's of Hotel Management. If anyone is going to Varanasi, do tell the auto fellow's that you need to go to an Ashram & not to a Hotel. He will charge 200 Rs to drop you to an Ashram you would like to go.
