On arrival from the railway station to the hotel the staff was very helpful (otherwise we would have lost in the endless narrow lanes old city of Benaras.)The approach to the hotel is through narrow and not kept clean lanes of old Benaras. One has to go on foot from the main road (approx half a km.). But the hotel staff was very helpful in carrying our luggage from the road head to the hotel. The location of the hotel is ideal for a pilgrimage visit to Varanasi since it is located just on the banks of holy river Ganga and all the important Ghats are very near to the hotel. The rooms were reasonable. However basic necessities such as bucket and mug in the bathroom, door foot mats were missing and provided on demand. House keeping left much to be desired as it was not regular. Fittings in the rooms were not standard that is in one room there was no TV but fridge was provided, whereas in another room no fridge but tv was provided (here no remote control was given hence the tv was useless.)Hence the room rates appeared to be on the higher side considering the quality of rooms. Food was good and reasonable. Service was good. The best part of the stay was provision of local guide by the hotel. The boy was very courteous, punctual and helpful. Overall the stay was good and fruitful. Recommended for stay if one is going on pilgrimage.

The only good thing for the Hotel was its location right on the Rana Mahal Ghat on Ganges itself, which you'll reach through small bye lanes from the Daswasamedh Ghat. All major temples and ghats are very much accessible through the bye-lanes of Varanasi. Its an old palace of Rana of Udaipur which he built for stay at Varanasi which has been converted though unfortunately the rooms are not palatial, quite small. The staff was friendly but service was painfully slow. The Front Desk guy gave some nice tips on sight seeing. It was a Non A/C Double Room There was neither a mirror nor a telephone in the room so you can imagine the rest. The cook had fled hence there was nothing available to eat other than tea. If one wants to have a frugal stay for a day in Varansi on the banks of Ganges then its OK.

The location of thew room, esp room no.507 is fantastic. The view of the Ganga is unbeatble. The staff are polite and helpful.Acess is by traversing thru the gullies and you should like the feel of olld Kashinagri rather than the modern Banras.Acess to all facilities is there.Restaurant need improvement but they will go the extra mile to accomodate your request.Very safe.Crowd is excellent and no drugs are allowed.Excellent for asafe stay while experining the Ganga and the Ghats at close quarters.

Great Place to stay right on the Banks of Ganga. Fortunately got the river view room as requested and it was just awesome. Clean rooms and great service. Dining options were OK.

We felt that we are in Home and did not feel any trouble during stay. The Room is specious and toilet is wide and clean with running Hot & Cold Water. Sufficient Toilet papers, soaps and towels and changed as and when necessary. Foods are of good quality and easily digestible and less spicy. The stuff members are really very co-operative and well behaved. They even allowed me to use their computers and internet for booking my Train Ticket. The only drawback is one cupboard is necessary in the Hotel room in order to keep clothings. The view of Varanasi from Hotel Balcony is very nice. So I would definitely recommend this Hotel if any one wants to visit Varanasi.

Exquisite place

Exquisite place

The staff are very easy-going, friendly, helpful with fluent English. The hotel is the cleanest one I experienced in India, and the room is spacious, with plenty of sunshine, as well as all kinds of basic facilieties, but at low costs.

Excellent Excellent

The highlight of this hotel is the rooms directly overlooking the Ganges. Additionally, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the staff is excellent (especially the manager, Vikki). The rooftop restaurant offers good views, and the servers are enthusiastic and helpful, despite their lack of English. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is non-existent, but didn't stop me enjoying a few dinners there before exploring the town at night. Very reasonable solo boat tours of the Ganges can be organised at reception. Highly recommended.

Had a pleasant stay...!! Had a pleasant stay...!!

Recently we visited Varanasi and stayed in this hotel, the hotel was soo neat and clean, they proceeded us with faster check in and check out, the rooms are quite spacious and sprawling, the beds are soo soft and comfortable, many famous channels were relayed on TV in the room, the windows in the room provide excellent city skyline, overall we enjoyed out stay here...!!!

Hotel on the banks of the Ganga! Hotel on the banks of the Ganga!

by shaaziaq on November 3, 2016

My best friend and myself travel around India together and we decided Diwali was a great time to be visiting the holiest city in the world. Since we're 2 girls travelling alone, we always make sure the place we're living in is affordable but safe. Palace on steps was a really good place to stay. Let me break down the great and not-so-great stuff: Great: - Amazing location. Our room had a stunning view of the Ganga River. IT is also located 1 minute away from Dashaswamedh Ghat, which is the main ghat of Benares. - Great service. You can ask for a pick up and drop off to the airport and the staff will happily carry your bags to and from the main road. - Great food at the restaurant. The Sunrise rooftop restaurant has some fantastic Bhurji and chicken Biryani! - Good sized room and bathroom - this is important as we like our space!! - Solution to problems - our AC stopped working and the staff made sure they fixed it before the night. Not-so-great: - The bathroom smelled of a sewer sometimes - not very pleasant, but if you left the door open it wasn't too bad. Totally dealable with. - It's a tiny hike up to the hotel, so if you have knee problems... Actually if you have knee problems please don't go to Benares. - Garbage pile lying right outside the gate - but this is the norm in Benares, there's garbage lying EVERYWHERE. - Wifi doesn't work. But seriously if you're coming to Benares just leave your phone and wifi and internet behind - enjoy the ganga!! Hope this helps! I would defs recommend this place - just smell the bathroom before you take the room ;)

Did the job. Did the job.

We decided to spent more than our usual budget of 1000rupees per night here and went up to 1500rupees. To be honest, the room was okay, not spectacular. When we arrived the bathroom was dirty, so had to be cleaned and the power went for a good half an hour or so along with the wifi. Eventually it was fixed but our AC broke.. We were given a much nicer room which was better than the original one we were given! The hotel is hard to find - but very close to the main Ghat which is superb. In terms of location you cannot ask for any better. The owners are friendly and cannot do enough for you. The restaurant is nice and the wifi is probably the best we have found in India so far. We would recommend this hotel, but we have still found better value for money elsewhere whilst venturing around India. But I wouldn't put anyone off staying here! Enjoy.
