This might be the most unique place that we've ever stayed in. Located right on the Guleria Ghat overlooking the Ganges river, the best way to get to the hotel is by boat. About a 15 minute gentle ride up the Ganges affords you a great view of the centuries old architecture and all the many ghats lining the river. The hotel itself is around 400 years old and with just 15 rooms is a quaint, quite place to base your Varanasi explorations from. It is quite easy to arrange a morning or evening row boat ride up the river or a daytime city walking tour. Our room was on the second level and was quite spacious. The room, although a bit musty smelling, was well appointed and led out onto a nice terrace with great river views. On the third level is a cute little restaurant with good food and inside or outdoors seating. The overall service was very good and we would certainly stay there again if back in town. We were under the impression that alcohol was not available there but we had no problems ordering both beer and wine.
