Staying at the Taj Gateway offers all the comforts of home and also allows you to experience all of the amenities of Varkala beach resort. A win-win. The hotel has a terrific pool, great food and is clean and safe.
Fab place and excellent hospitality by the staff. Rooms are quiet big and have got beautiful views of the garden and pool. Very close to the Varkala beach. Just 2 minutes walk, staff is very helpful. Had an amazing time
We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay, our room was spacious and clean with a nice view. The staff were most helpful through out the hotel. The views very good with a short walk to the beach. the breakfasts were delicious with loads of different choices and plenty of waiters and chiefs to assist. The pool assistant was on hand to help with towels, moving sun shades and drinks. you could get a tuctuc to the helipad in the evenings from the front gate.
We stayed at the gateway, varkala for a couple of nights in jan 2017. Located on a cliff, the resort offers amazing views of the Arabian Sea. We had a sea facing room with a balcony which overlooked the cliff and the sea. Unlike most luxurious Taj properties, this one is relatively small with limited amenities. However, it's easily the best property in varkala. The courteousness and hospitality of the resort staff is excellent. The main Varkala cliff area is close by and is accessible from inside the resort. The breakfast buffet spread is not elaborate but just perfect with an assortment of smoothies and vegetable juices. Would highly recommend trying a traditional Kerala meal at the ala carte restaurant. The Ayurvedic centre at the resort is quite reasonably priced with very knowledgeable staff. Overall it's just the perfect getaway ensconced away from the crowded cliff area of Varkala.
My husband and I stayed for 6 nights. We were warmly greeted on arrival by Ammu and given shell necklaces and cool drinks. We had a lovely garden view room which was spacious, comfortable and had all the amenities we needed, e.g. air-con, safe, kettle, fridge. The bathroom was also spacious with a wonderful rainshower. Our outdoor seating area could have been enhanced with a fan. The pool area was peaceful and the pool itself refreshing. There were not enough loungers available for the number of guests though. There was a sign stating not to reserve sunbeds but this was clearly not adhered to or enforced. The breakfast buffet offered plenty of choice. Obtaining a cup of tea or coffee was quite challenging each morning as service was slow. Some staff seemed disinterested. The head chef was a friendly chap and soon sorted any problems out. We dined in the restaurant on the lunchtime of our arrival, but were put off from going again due to the slow service - a shame because the food was very nice. The hotel was in a good location, just a short walk to the beach and North Cliff. The hotel itself had a very tranquil atmosphere. The reception staff in particular were very friendly and helpful. Our trip was part of our wedding anniversary celebrations and a cake was sent to our room on arrival which was a lovely gesture. On checkout I was also presented with a coconut shell candle. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and it was value for money. I would have no qualms in recommending to others.
