On arrival no-one knew about our booking, the hotel is a bit like a building site though the pool is lovely, the rooms are wierd with gravel on the floor which makes most of the area unusable and I dread to think how filthy it all is, there is no wifi, and the Manager is sooo rude and made us feel completely unwelcome because we had booked a deal through He complained about us not paying the top price and banned us from the restaurant for breakfast presumably to avoid us telling the other guests what we thought, he also told us that he was in a difficult financial situation which is why he had let the rooms at a cheaper rate to fill up the hotel. The actual place is half built and some way out of Varkala itself. There are steps down to the beach which are very tricky and the sea is often too rough for safe swimming. This was the most unfriendly place we stayed during our time in India, let down by the main staff.

Great resort , location beautiful fantastic beach.Rooms could be better bit dated and not very willing to offer exchange but still very comfortable . Good not too bad .The Areyvedic clinic was excellent and the staff first class especially the lady doctor, tried loads of treatment in the UK for sciatica without much success but in 5 days at the Oceano i seem to be so much better than I have been for years. All in all a very good experience. thank you.

The Oceano Cliff is picturesque with a pretty garden & with a short walk down the cliff steps to the beach which is nice. Unfortunately we did have a mix up with the rooms on arrival though it was resolved amicably. However, we felt a lot less at home here than most other places we stayed in India; maybe it was the fact we wern't engaged in the Ayurvedic treatment, which is a major feature of this hotel, or that apart from Suneil & Rita who were nice and made an effort with us, the rest of the upper management staff seemed overtired, overworked and disinterested in us. It was okay but not good enough that we would return.

We stayed here for the middle four days of our honeymoon with our one year old. I could have sworn I booked a room with air con (I cant find the documents to prove that, so this part of the review is subjective), we were shown to a quite nice room (not as good as the pictures) that was stifling and hot, there was no way we could have let our toddler sleep in there. WE explained to the management that we needed a room with aircon or we'd have to go elsewhere, the manager got very shouty and unpleasant about it, he was very explicit about telling us to like or lump it but no refund would be given if we needed to go elsewhere. We EVENTUALLY got an alternative room with aircon but were told (not in a pleasant way) that we had to pay 682 rupees extra a night for the aircon. The room we ended up with had floor space that was 60% very sharp stones, the management did offer us rugs to cover the stones up with as we had a child with us but it was still a stupid layout for a room. They tried to bill us twice for the room (I'd already paid on line- funny how these mistakes are always in their favour!!) and more than the agreed amount for the aircon, I refused to pay EVEN more than agreed for the aircon which resulted in another unpleasant conversation. We had already paid a lot for the room. I note that another review on here states that no refund was given after service criteria wasn't met, I wish I'd read the review before booking. The staff (not the manager) were very very nice, it is in a great location and the massage was wonderful, food and the pool were good but not amazing. Overall, I'd find somewhere else to stay.....

Beautiful wood lined breezy room with a balcony opening to the sea. No mosquitoes. The hotel has its own path down the verdant cliff to the beach. Unfortunately the senior staff are somewhat ungracious and even rude. When my room wasn't cleaned by the afternoon I mentioned it at the desk. There was no apology when I returned and it still wasn't done. Instead the staff were blamed and later sent to the room with apologies. I was disappointed and no effort was made to make things better.
