This is long pending review from my side. I travelled with my wife. Heavenly place, amazing hospitality and food, nice location. Can never forget my stay. Thanks for making it memorable.
Suggestion - If you keep bikes/bicycles at place, it would be even more fun for travellers to travel on their own
We spent 5 nights here, using it as a base to get acclimatised in Kerala. Ahead of our visit, Shama (the owner) was very helpful in obtaining train tickets for our onward journey.
Villa Akasa is at the South Cliff end of Varkala in a largely residential area with few 'amenities'. The North Cliff with all of its restaurants, cafes and shops is a good 20-25 minute walk or a 100 rupee rickshaw ride to the Helipad.. Depending on your viewpoint, this remoteness can be seen as a positive or a negative factor. If you want a peaceful and well-equipped homestay then this is the place for you. if you want to be at the heart of the action, it's probably not the best choice.
We stayed in one of the 2 'bungalows' in the Villa's garden, with our own terrace where we ate breakfast. As I'm mentioning breakfast, this might be the time to mention the only other negative factor, because the breakfasts were, frankly, fairly indifferent.
The rooms were well equipped with good a/c and fan, free filtered water and a large, comfortable bed. The large bathroom was - startlingly - open to the elements with no roof which was fine although I did come in one afternoon to find a flapping crow in the process of dismembering a palm squirrel in the shower- it soon found its way up and out.
Villa Akasa is probably some way from being the cheapest option in Varkala but has much to recommend it and the staff are very helpful.
Long stay for long walks at the beach and relax. Excellent stay, nice property and a wonderful tropical garden. The staff was super and the best breakfast on our journey Highly recomended! We will return!
This was our first time in Varkala and we were looking forward to some time to unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Villa Akasa was the perfect respite.
We stayed in Jal, one among the three bright and airy rooms which was decorated so tastefully with knick knacks that our host had collected on her travels. The open air bathroom was a lovely surprise, there's something about being able to shower under the clear blue skies.
We'll really miss enjoying the delicious home cooked meals and fresh juices in our veranda while admiring the bougainvillea in full bloom in the garden.
There is a lovely beach just 5 minutes from the Villa, which isn't crowded at all and great for a dip at sunset.
Our host, Shama was very warm, giving us tips on where to go and things we could do around the area. She recently adopted a very friendly puppy naned Jako who was so much fun to be around with his antics.
We had a lovely time at here and look forward to returning, soon!
Having been to Varkala before we knew where we wanted to base ourselves and this was just perfect. A 5 min walk to the beach and a 10/15 min walk to North Cliff but we felt like we were in an oasis. We stayed in one of the 2 cottages in the garden with a terrace giving onto the garden where we sat and ate breakfast each morning. Our room was clean and spacious with plenty of wardrobe space, air con, ceiling fan, torch, beach umbrella and there were also bikes on hand to use, which we did! Our bathroom was open air which was lovely - taking a shower under the blue sky listening to the birds - fab! Breakfast, which was served on our terrace each morning, was plentiful enough so that we didn't often eat again during the day. Choice of western or Indian breakfast meant that we have several choices over our 6 day stay. The juices and homemade bread were wonderful! Shama (the owner), Pramod and Pranav were fantastic hosts - helpful with local knowledge and always available if we needed something. The highlight of our stay has to be Jaakko, a 2 month old Labrador belonging to Shama....what a delight he was.... We celebrated our wedding anniversary whilst we were staying here so chose to eat on our terrace one evening - a superb meal cooked by Geeta and attended by Jaakko! All in all a fantastic stay and we were very sad to leave but will definitely return - THANK YOU.....
