the woodhouse beach resort is very well located, it takes only 5 minutes to the beach and 5 minutes to the best bar at the promenade called rock n roll. We planned to stay here 3 nights but extended one night because it's such a charming and peaceful place. Having breakfast with the best sea view, take a scooter to varkala city and ride along the coast or just hang out at varkala beach- there are several possibilities to enjoy your stay to the max. Manuj, the manager of the place takes care of his guests, he offered us many things and helped us with every concern we had. I would recommend this nice and cozy place to anyone who is planning to stay in varkala.
We stayed 4 nights in the Woodhouse Beach Resort and had great time! The location is perfect, so close to the sea and surrounded by palm trees.
The room was in good condition A/C, balcony, shower, king size bed etc. we felt very comfortable.
Manoj, the manager is very friendly and helpful, as well as the rest of the staff.
We really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and the short walks to the nearby cafes, shops and restaurants.
I juggest renting a scooter to get around, 10 min ride to Varkala town center and 5 min to Varkala beach.
Would recommend to anyone planning to stay in Varkala. Good value for your money. Would visit again. Great place!!
This resort was on the cliff, mostly at the end. Room were big and clean. The Wi-Fi were not working all the time. The resort had a facility to pick and drop .It helped us a lot. The breakfast was not that good as expected (it was complimentary). But near the resort there were lot of good restaurants.the lawn had lot of mosquitoes.
Room- we had a small bungalow. This consists of a bedroom area and wet room. The wetroom had a family of ants living there but to be honest this really didn't bother me- they went in and out the window, never venturing far at all. It had a western style flush toilet, which may be a must for some travellers. The shower worked ok, but sometimes all the warm water had gone and you would be left with cold water; this isn't an issue in the heat but not great if you need to wash your hair.
The bedroom is an ok size. The bed was fairly comfortable but may have benefitted from another pillow, having said this- I'm sure if I asked for one I would have got it.
The room is plagued by noise from the kitchen though, it comes through the small window in the bathroom - it would benefit from a skylight perhaps and blocking up that window. The woman who washes up is super noisy too!!!
One Sunday morning we were woken at some ungodly hour by one of the blokes, he cleans the rooms etc chopping coconuts right behind our room- not what we needed at all. Totally clueless !!
The manager is very helpful and will try and get you what you need. We had a kettle in our room and a small table outside , so we sat out there for breakfast etc. He even went out of his way to get me some anti biotics that I needed when I arrived. (These are super cheap in India by the way but make sure you actually know what you need or god knows what you will end up with!!)
The small restaurant at the back - near the cliff side - can make toast but takes ages!! We did get the odd curry made here, tasted fine but god it took forever to arrive. They clearly can only cook one request at a time, we witnessed this on more than one occasion.
The wifi is pretty iffy too, especially the further you stay away from the main building, this is a must to get sorted asap tbh. If this was sorted I would probably return, I needed it to keep in contact with family.
All rooms came with AC and a fan, it certainly kept the room lovely and cool, no issues there at all.
I loved sitting outside in the evening but I was bitten so badly by mozzies, it became impossible in the end. I was also getting bitten by the fleas from the cats etc that visit, not great.
The hotel & rooms are based at the end of the cliff and therefore fairly quiet. The only downfall is you have to walk the 'gauntlet' past all the stalls. Most are ok but some can be a bit much.
At the beginning of the stay, it was lovely and quiet, then the cafe next door got a sound system and the noise started by 8:30am and could go on past 12 some nights!! Bloody awful music most nights too.
It's certainly changed a huge amount since I was last there 10 years ago.
First place you come to from north or last from south, the north is the quieter end if you didn't know, tidy establishment ,nearest black beach (2mins)which is tiny but the water looks the cleanest here and good for a cooling dip ,i've heard the sea can be dangerous but was fine when i spent time here ,with all india caveats apply rooms reasonably priced and equipped, friendly and helpful staff,
