Hi, My Review is for the MGM Velankanni Residency in Velankanni. I have always stayed at this hotel on all my visits to Velankanni and this time too i stayed here. Only difference was that i booked this time through Travelguru. First of all a few words on the Booking Process through Travelguru: Neat Website, all good options with Prices is listed. Quickly made my clicks since i wanted to stay at MGM and the hotel was highly listed in the Travelguru Pick. Also got a discount on Using ICICI Payment. Recieved confirmation from TravelGuru.(TGU0001258609) Took printout and set off on the journey. I travelled 29 Hours on The Nizamuddin Chennai Rajdhani and reached Chennai, transferred to Egmore station for my overnight train to Nagapattinam from where Velankanni is only 14 Kms away. Couple of Hours before i am to board the Train in Egmore i see mail from Travelguru (at 20:56 hrs) saying that due to some reason the Booking at MGM is cancelled and that i must shift to some other hotel Called VKN (General Hotel in Travel guru Classification) whereas MGM was three star. i immediately tried to contact Travel Guru on the Mobile Number provided at 21:14 Hrs. The Mobile Number was disconnected and the landline was after a few rings answered by Malleesh to whom i said please put me up in a equivalent hotel. He promised to call back immediately. No call came for an hour and then i again tried the number. But now no one was picking the landline also (022 61539500). I went to the Travelguru Website and called the main number, talked to executive who then transferred to Hotel desk who informed me that they are sorry for what has happened and nothing can be done and that i should accept VKN and they will refund the difference of 2000 Rs. I never expected such a treatment from Travelguru, and there was no help forthcoming from the executive who only said that i can accept the alternate and till 8 am nothing can be done. I asked for a senior manager's number and i was told that they dont have the authority for sharing the, how is that ... Anyways this went going back and forth till 12 am and then i said that ok i will take the hotel after visiting the same in the morning. Nest day i reached Nagapattinam, just by sheer chance i thought of calling MGM and asking for space. Miracle happened and they said that yes they are holding two rooms for us. How is that....i quickly confirmed that i am coming and reached there and took the rooms. Extremely Bad treatment by Travelguru. Now for the actual review: - The Hotel is convienently located from Nagapattinam station. It is at the entrance of Velankanni and you therefore dont have to navigate the filth and pollution of Inner Velankanni. The Hotel Facilities are expanded compared to my last visit in 2007. Better Resturant and rooms. Both our Rooms were comfortable (203/205) however Room No 203 was almost double the size of 205, but same tariff. Not sure why. Rooms equipped with Mini Bars/ Hot Water (only through solar, we had to ask for Hot water Buckets) and Comfortable Beds/AC. Dining options have improved, however choice is still limited. Chef Believes in SPcing up everything. Staff was very helpful, especially the reception. they gave us a 20% discount on F & B. Wireless availability is only in reception and not in rooms Velankanni Church is very close by, Autos Charge Rs 70 but we walked (15-17 Minutes) There used to be a Childrens Play Area (now Closed) and a Grotto on Campus (now inaccessible due to water logging) All in all a good Visit. The resort was good. It is located at a very convenient location and the surrounding is great. The MGM theme park being just next door has an added attraction. However the room tariff is so cheap. Deepa Verma

Food was good particularly sea food. Lots of sightseeing possibility nearby. Wonderful place to enjoy the sea. Ouseph Francis

Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was prompt at their work. Service was good. Food was good to taste. It?s an above average property.

The Hotel is under renovation. We can not expect anything better than this at present. The work will get over before Christmas. The Manager and his entire team are capable and polite. I feel after the renovation from the existing 22 rooms to 55 (If I am correct)with the servicing mentality they have, we can expect a good hotel at Velankanni. I really look forward to stay in the same place next year.
