Its difficult to be different from what other readers have expressed about the positivity this place oozes. Nestled in the deep forest of Wayanad this resort takes you away from the hustle bustle of the city madness.
We visited the resort for 2 days over the New Year and had booked us a earth room which is building right next to the reception and restaurant. Reaching here is absolutely easy if you follow the google maps. It a little far from the city area so maintains its serenity. The welcome by the reception was very cold I wish he smiled- probably he wanted a leave that day and didnt get it. There is valet parking here but the car was parked right outside the property but thats ok. There is barely any network in this area and one needs to be near the front office to have Wifi.
The entrance to the main building gives a feel of tremendous spaciousness and overlooking greenery. The rooms were excellently done and were neat and clean. We were pleasantly surprised on noticing the mud walls everywhere. The room was naturally temperature controlled even without the AC, though it was a pleasantly cold. The bathrooms were well equipped and I must state the toiletries and towels were very unique. They werent the usual hotel towels but were thin and smelled so good.
Hungry from our drive from Mangalore we headed straight to the restaurant. This is where we were warmly welcomed by the staff and there was smile everywhere. The buffet is worth every penny with a mid-sized host of dishes primarily south Indian served during the lunch. I must mention here is that restaurant is one of the most beautiful setups I have savoured good food at. Its feels like in the nature with trees all around and a beautiful natural decor.
For the nature buffs there are two trails one with a view point which we did over the same evening. This was a short solitary walk uphill from within the resort premises to a point which overlooks the huge hills that you see at the entrance. And the other one to a stream downhill passing through the tea estates and a rajas cave (Apparently escape route)- wait - the tea estates would come as a surprise as you walk down the trail they suddenly appear for you to be taken aback. The trails are well managed and seems like Banasura property.
The only disappointment was the forced New Year Gala dinner which I wish would not have happened. The dinner food there was sub-standard by the resort standards and the program was absolutely not to my taste but again not a deal breaker. The point of being away from the city life is to enjoy silence solitude but this event was very noisy playing music on loudspeakers - please be sensitive to wildlife and animals - the resort is in the peripheries of a reserve area.
Completely Eco-Friendly to enjoy
Footwear is missing so Please add Jute Slippers to adore bathrooms in future.
Staffs are supportive and friendly too
Suggested to provide complementary tea dusts from their own estate
We stayed on twin villa for 2 nights mid December ( 15 to 17th 2017). One of the best resorts I have been to. Eco friendly at it's best.
Eco friendly rooms. The resort was constructed with the nature in mind. It blends perfectly with the nature.
Food was superb, no complains at all. Chef Renjan( hope I spelled his name right) did a great job. He took his time to explain some recipes to us as well.
Arranging tours from the resort was so easy. Staffs were knowledgeable and friendly. All we have to do is let them know our point of interests. They will give us suggestions ,quote and what is doable etc.
They have beautiful trails around the resort. One that goes through elephant rock and another that goes through pazhassi hideout n tea plantation. The guide Mr.Ravikumar who took us to the plantation trail is a native of wayanad .He was very patient , friendly and knowledgeable. The view point right outside the resort is breath taking.. The gorgeous view of Banasura hill is another plus.
Staffs are very friendly, room service was awesome. We travelled with a cranky little kid, on the day of checkout restaurant staffs were kind enough to pack some food for our little one.
Facilities were nice, swimming pool, library, play area. Our little one and all of is enjoyed all three.
The road leading to the resort was not maintained. It is not their problem, more of Kerala government issue. Wish they took care of it since tourism is a major income for the state.
It is worth every penny you spent. It is truly a refreshing get away to nature with mouth watering food.
BHR is a well equipped resort , i happen to stay there in December . The rooms are big and well maintained . There are a lot of indoor games to keep you engaged , the food was yummy . There isnt much other activities offered at the resort . The last stretch of road approaching the resort is in a very poor condition . The staffs were so courteous and helpful .
A lush green property, rooms made of mud, really good food, and courteous service - 'A refreshing and new experience', worth the money spent.
Rooms: Stayed in mini-earth room. Walls are made of mud and hence temperature in room in on lower side. The moment you enter the room you could feel that bedding, cushions are wet, but they are cold, not wet :). A mini-earth room is really small but it would do for a couple. Insects are quite common since its in middle of plantation, trees all around. Make sure you don't leave the door open.
There are Earth rooms (much much bigger than Mini-Earth, i checked one in order to upgrade- didn't do it though) with a higher price quote but exactly same amenities.
Problem is availability of hot water in bathroom.
Restaurant: A special thanks to restaurant staff. Food served was good, Tea needs a lot of improvement.
Property: Resort is lush green, on a mountain. Try out their nature's trail and guided tour, walk down to the water stream. Pool is average.
We tried to book spa on the day we arrived. There was no one at the spa center and we were told that someone would be available at 3PM next day. We booked it. The Ayurveda massage (full body) was really below average for both of us. After Spa, we were about to take shower and there we are, no hot water supply again. We waited for almost 30 minutes for it to get fixed but no one showed up. Therapist tried a lot to get the electrician, but not sure what management was upto. We finally wiped off the oil with towel, (no bathrobes were provided, so we spoiled our clothes with oil ) walked to our room to take the shower. SURPRISE, hot water was there for 10 minutes and then gone.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay in lap of nature (it was refreshing indeed) except SPA.
