What to See
Naini Lake : The lifeblood of this lake town, legend has it that the deep green lake is one of the emerald green eyes of Parvati, Shiva's wife. It is believed that the modern Naina Devi Temple at the northern end of the lake is the spot where her eye fell, after Vishnu chopped up her body and scattered it all over to stop Shiva's cosmic dance of destruction. Enjoy a rowboat or pedal boat ride around the lake or hire a yacht from the Nainital Boat Club. Not just the lake, there's much to do on the promenade too. Shops and restaurants line the entire edge of the lake and you can hunt for can shawls, local handicrafts, honey, fruit juices and pickles.
Snow View : An exciting activity for all is the ropeway Aerial Express to Snow View (7447 ft). Catch majestic views of the Himalayas dominated by the sacred Nanda Devi. Alternately, you can also ride up to Snow View on ponies or horses available at the north end of the Mall.
