The capital of Sikkim, Gangtok is a unique hill resort of northeast India and is known for Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, the large variety of plant and wildlife and an ethnic mix of people with rich cultural tradition. Add to this a trip through the different valleys of the state. With its resplendent snow-capped mountains, dazzling waterfalls and sparkling streams, Lachung has rightly been described as the most picturesque village of Sikkim. The Yumthang Valley is known for its several varieties of flowers that bloom year through. And finally, the serene town Darjeeling is known throughout the world for the tea it grows and the toy train that is a UN heritage.
Itinerary (Darjeeling - Gangtok - Lachung)
Day 1: NJP Rly Stn/Bagdogra Airport–Gangtok (about 125 kms/4 hrs)
Meet & Greet on arrival at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station / Bagdogra Airport & transfer to Gangtok – “The Capital City of Sikkim”. On arrival check-in to your hotel & rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at hotel.
Day 2: Gangtok (Trip to Tsomgo Lake)
Start for a half day trip of Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft.), 34 km from Gangtok city & Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial. Tsomgo Lake freezes completely during the winter and is much revered by the locals. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3: Gangtok–Lachung (about 117 kms/6 hrs)
After breakfast pick up (at 9.00 am) from hotel at Gangtok & drive to Lachung (altitude 8610 ft). Enroute visit Singhik View point, Seven Sisters Water Fall, (Lunch at Namak), Naga Water Fall, (Tea break at Chungthang) Arrival Lachung at evening. Dinner at hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 4: Lachung–Yumthang Excursion (24 km. & 11,800 ft)
Early Morning drive to Yumthang-valley (known as Valley of Flowers), Yumthang is the summer grazing ground of the Yaks & winter playgrounds of Yetis. On the way back visit Hot Spring considered to have medicinal properties. Back to resort for lunch. Spent afternoon interacting with the local people taking the idea of their simple lifestyle. Overnight at hotel.
Day 5: Lachung-Gangtok (about 117 kms/6 hrs)
After breakfast departure (8.00 am) for the Gangtok enroute witness the Beautification of the wonderful Bheema & Twin Falls. On arrival at check-in to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 6: Gangtok - Darjeeling (About 98 Kms /4 hrs).
After early breakfast visit half day sight seeing around Gangtok visit Rumtek Monastery, Flower show, Botanical Garden, Do-Dul Chorten, Institute of Tibetology, Flower show and cottage industry After lunch drive to Darjeeling is one of the most magnificent Hill Resorts in the World. On arrival check-in to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 7: Darjeeling (local sightseeing)
Early Morning (at 4.00 am) drive to tiger hill to watch the spectacular sunrise over Mt. Kanchendzonga (Worlds third highest peak), on way back visit Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop . After breakfast visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, P.N. Zoological Park (closed on Thursday) Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee Centre (closed on Sunday), Tea Garden (outer view), and Japanese Temple. Evening free (walking tour of mall - suggested). Overnight at hotel.
