Goa, India
Canacona is accessible by road and rail, making it fairly easy for tourists to visit this region. However, this only became possible after the early 1990s when tourism started to develop here. This region is more affordable than most of the other parts of Goa. Regardless of this, Canacona sees a lower population of visitors than many of the other regions. What draws most people to this region is the scenic beach belt which is home to Palolem, one of the most beautiful beaches in south Goa. Apart from Palolem, the Agnoda beach is another popular, but less visited beach. Fishing trips and dolphin watching are some of the attractions at these beaches that draw visitors, particularly Scandinavian and British folk. In addition to beaches, Canacona also houses the Cotigao Wildlife sanctuary. When in Cancona, tourists can choose from a handful of small hotels that meet basic comforts or beach huts that are located right on the beach, which are open from October to May. Situated in the south of Goa, Canacona is also known as Kankon Taluka and is an administrative region. It is one of the five talukas that make up the South Goa district.
